Ep. 3: What sexual assault victims can expect in the ER

April 26, 2019

For victims of sexual assault, thinking about "what's next?" can be almost as painful as thinking about what just happened.  In fact, the experiences victims go through with police, doctors, family, friends, can add to the trauma and make them more likely to blame themselves and less likely to pursue prosecution.

Hospitals, law enforcement, and organizations are changing the ways they handle sexual assault victims.  It is important to know what to expect at the hospital and what options are available to empower victims.

Perry's SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) team are trained in how to talk to victims, make them feel comfortable, and collect evidence that can be used in a prosecution, if victims choose to pursue legal action.

Listen to Kim and Erika discuss the reality of what sexual assault victims go through.
