Nutritional Counseling

Practical solutions for healthy living

Research tells us that living a healthy lifestyle plays a key role in fighting against and helping to prevent some of the major leading causes of death, such as heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. However, there is an excessive amount of nutrition and lifestyle-related messages being thrown at us each day through TV, advertisements, social media and the internet. These messages are causing food to become an object of frustration. Here at Perry Memorial Hospital, we have registered dietitians, experts in food and nutrition that can provide you a one-on-one consultation to answer any of your nutrition-related questions. Our dietitians use evidence-based, medical nutrition therapy to personally create an individual nutrition plan specifically for you. We aim to lead you on the road to making healthy lifestyle changes and achieving your personal goals.

What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

Medical Nutrition Therapy is a personalized approach to treating certain medical conditions and their associated symptoms by utilizing a specifically planned diet that will be monitored by your physician, a registered dietician or a professional nutritionist.

What is a registered dietitian?

Registered dietitians are nutrition experts with degrees in nutrition, dietetics, public health and related fields from respected, accredited universities. They must also complete a supervised internship administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and earn ongoing professional education credits to maintain certification. A registered dietitian can put you on the path to lowering your weight, eating healthfully and reducing your risk of chronic disease.

Services Tailored to Your Health

Our registered dietitians offer customized nutrition therapy services including:

  • Nutritional analysis of your diet
  • Diabetes nutrition education
  • Weight management education (overweight or obesity and unintentional weight loss or gain)

Other special diets, including:

  • Heart-healthy eating (congestive heart failure, high cholesterol, high blood pressure)
